NON FISHING ACTIVITIES

SPECIAL CUSTOM DIVING PACKAGES

Three Amigos offers custom diving packages, on the host for those who may want to dive rather than fish.  We have dive partners in both Belize, and the Bay Islands who will customize a dive package to meet your specific desires.  We can build these based on your requirements, provide dive masters (our captain is a veteran dive master as well) and gear.  Contact us, or your booking agent to arrange dive excursions, for any non fishing guests who want the pleasure, and privacy of the week on board the host.

ANTIGUA…A PERFECT ‘NON-FISHING’ SPOT

Just in case you have a spouse, a friend or family members who don’t like fishing (we at The Three Amigos understand that these people do, in fact exist… even if we can’t figure out just why!) then we know the perfect place for them to land for a week while you’re out hunting the flats.

Antigua was the capital of Guatemala way back when the USA was kicking the Brits out of their East Coast fishing holes back during the Revolutionary War. After a series of earthquakes damaged the city in the late 1700s, the capital was moved to it’s current location – Guatemala City. All governmental functions (and the functionaries who performed them) were ordered moved to Guatemala City, and most of the business interests followed. Counterintuitively, this “abandonment” of Antigua is what saved it from becoming overrun by development. The city, still regal in it’s ruins, was virtually abandoned for almost 150 years, when a developing economy drove people back out from the sprawling new capital. Now, situated a mile above sea level, Antigua retains it’s colonial charm, its cobblestone streets, its pedestrian nature. And it is surrounded by stunning mountains and volcanoes with a perfect year round climate of cool nights and mild days. If your friends are here for a week, it wouldn’t be unlikely for them to look out to the west one evening and see Volcan Fuego spewing lava into the sky.

Further, Antigua offers visitors a plethora of options to keep busy, from its world renowned language schools to stunning and educational trips to local Mayan villages. While you’re out hitting the bonefish, they’ll have all the options in the world to be happy by actively going out and exploring all that Antigua has to offer, or just kicking back and enjoying the scenery from Antigua’s top notch cafés and restaurants. And, for your friends, or maybe even you at the end of your trip, we’d really encourage taking a day or two at Lago de Atitlán, a Lake that Aldous Huxley once called “the most beautiful in the world.”

Writ short: Antigua is a perfect place for landlubbers – not to big, not too small. But just right.

The Three Amigos are more than happy to help facilitate a week in Antigua for your non-fishing friends and family. In fact, we’re pretty sure that you may even want to plan a night or two after your week fishing the tropical flats in this gem of a city. You’ll likely need a few days to get your land-legs back, and we can’t think of a better place.

ROATAN, HONDURAS

Another option, aside from Antigua, for your friends and family who don’t fish is Roatan in the stunningly beautiful Bay Islands of Honduras. Roatan isn’t you’re typical, flat, primitive Caribbean outpost. Roatan is spectacular. It is mountainous, tropical and offers a wide palette of activities ranging from some of the world’s best SCUBA diving and instruction, snorkeling and day trips into the jungle and the mountains. Accommodations range from comfortable cottages to elegant, high-end beach resorts. While your chasing, and catching, fish you will remember your whole lifetime, your companions can enjoy spas, excellent dining and relaxation while you’re wading the pristine flats of the Cayes and Islands of this paradise.

Getting there isn’t complicated. You can fly directly to Roatan and we’ll pick you up on The Host and take your non-fishing friends to their resort.
Roatan is one of the first locations that Christopher Columbus reached in his quest for the passage to the East. He may be long gone, but the beauty and majesty he encountered here, five hundred years ago, is still in full bloom. We’ve got plenty of contacts on the island and can help you sort out accommodations and activities that will give them a great vacation, even if they’re not given to fishing in the flats.
